JAMESTOWN - The Salvation Army is partnering with the United States Postal Service for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. On Saturday, May 13, simply leave a bag of nonperishable food near your mailbox before 9 a.m. and a letter carrier will pick it up.
Major Tim Nauta, Jamestown Salvation Army administrator says anything donated on Saturday will remain in Jamestown.
Nauta says the food drive could not come at a better time. Many families who rely on free meals for their children at public schools struggle to feed them during the summer months, according to Nauta.
"We often see the need increase during the summer, but the donations decrease," says the Major.
He emphasizes that people should make sure food items have not gone beyond their expiration dates, as food shelves are required to throw those items away.
