GWINNER, ND - An Oakes, ND man is dead after a fatal crash in Sargent County over the weekend.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Case tractor, driven by 63-year-old Mark Wyum of Rutland, was traveling west on Highway 13 from a field east of Gwinner to another field west of Gwinner. A 2009 GMC Acadia, driven by 39-year-old Oscar Castro of Oakes, was traveling west on Highway 13 from Wahpeton to Stirum.
At 10:26 p.m. Saturday, the front of Castro's GMC struck the rear end of a disc plow that was being pulled by the tractor in the westbound lane.
Castro suffered fatal head injuries in the crash and died at the scene. Wyum was not hurt. The crash happened a half-mile east of Gwinner.
The Patrol reported the tractor and plow had the required lighting to legally operate on a highway at night and the lighting was properly functioning at the time of the crash. No citations were issued. The crash remains under investigation by the Patrol.
