PSC Schedules Hearing in Ellendale on Foxtail Windfarm Project

BISMARCK, ND – The North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a public hearing on Monday, Nov. 20, regarding a proposal to construct a wind farm in Dickey County.

Foxtail Wind (a wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC), has submitted an application for a permit for the Foxtail Wind Energy Center.

The project will be constructed and operated by Xcel Energy, pending Commission approval for transfer of the site certificate. The project will have a generating capacity of up to 150 megawatts and will consist of up to 75 turbines. Associated facilities will include access roads, underground electrical collection systems and cabling, a collection substation, an operations and maintenance building, a meteorological evaluation tower, a construction laydown area, a batch plant, and a switchyard. The project will interconnect with Montana Dakota Utilities’ transmission system, connecting to the MDU 230 kV Ellendale-Tatanka transmission line.

The project area encompasses approximately 20,029 acres (31 square miles) in western Dickey County.

It is estimated the permanent project structures will occupy up to 97.74 acres.

The hearing provides an opportunity for members of the public to contribute to the PSC’s official record. Any comments from members of the public must be received at the hearing to be part of the record. People with concerns, questions or support/opposition for the project are encouraged to attend the hearing and present their information. Information received after the hearing will not be part of the official record and cannot be used as a basis for the Commission’s decision unless certain additional procedures are followed.
