The State Water Commission, led by Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller, recently allocated $72.6 million for 15  different water projects, with notably $50 million going towards expanding the Bismarck water treatment plant. The expansion is set to start in late 2025, and it will increase the plant’s capacity by 10 million gallons per day to a total of 40 million gallons, while implementing advanced filtration technology to the plant as well.

Lt. Gov. Miller said that the collaborative effort involving the SWC, Department of Water Resources, state Legislature, and oil tax revenues benefits to community safety, resilience, and economic growth. DWR Director Andrea Travnicek reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring high-quality water supplies for North Dakotans, with over $403 million committed to water projects, and ongoing support under Governor Doug Burgum’s leadership.
