Fedorchak Campaign Files Election Interference Complaints

The winner of the Republican Primary for North Dakota’s congressional election has officially filed election interference complaints with federal authorities.   Julie Fedorchak won the June 11 election, but text messages sent across North Dakota falsely claimed that Fedorchak had dropped out on election day.   Campaign attorney Shane Goettle filed complaints with the FEC and FCC alleging fraudulent texts sent from multiple 701 area codes.  Goettle told the Associated Press that he believes this misinformation campaign could have been a test for larger attempts nationwide this fall.   Democrats in the state were the subject of similar fraudulent texts on election day, which urged registered Democrats to vote for Republican Rick Becker.  All Republicans who were in the race, including Becker, have denied being part of the misinformation campaigns.   The FEC and FCC have not yet responded to the filings.
