The State Board of Animal Health has issued an order requiring all lactating dairy cattle to be tested for the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1) within 10 days prior to being at the North Dakota State Fair from July 19th to the 27th.

Agricultural Commissioner Doug Geohring said that “Although North Dakota has not had any detections yet, the testing will help to minimize the potential for illness spread.”

Owners who plan on attending the State Fair are instructed to contact their veterinarian who will collect a sample. And all costs related to the Vet, Shipping, and Lab Testing by NDSU will be reimbursed by the Federal Government.
