Cows Being Lost to Flooding

By Ryan King Jun 26, 2024 | 12:00 PM

Consistent precipitation leading to flooding has caused millions of dollars in damages while also sweeping away peoples homes and farms in Southeastern South Dakota, and Northwestern Iowa.

In turn with all this flooding, Farmers in Northwest Iowa have reported that cattle have been displaced, gone missing, and are possibly dead.

Multiples farmers in the area of the flooding have reported missing cows and multiple calves, after last weekends excessive rains causing the flooding.

A reason for the missing livestock was put on the timing of the rain that came in at night time. According to one farmer, he and the crew had no time to prepare ahead of time for the rain that was hitting the area and move the cattle to a safe location.

As more rain is expected in the area later this week, Farmers should prepare for the worst keeping livestock in safe locations to prevent more head lost to these uncommon circumstances.
