WARD COUNTY — A fatal collision occurred on US Highway 83 involving a Mitsubishi and a Jeep, resulting in the death of one individual, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The incident happened at approximately 11:08 a.m when a southbound Mitsubishi slowed down in the driving lane to check on a vehicle stopped on the west shoulder of the highway. A Jeep, also traveling southbound, rear-ended the slowing Mitsubishi. The impact caused the Jeep to come to rest in the center ditch, while the Mitsubishi ended up on the shoulder.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 68-year-old man from Bismarck, was transported to Trinity Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The passenger in the Mitsubishi (a 63-year-old woman from Orland, California) and the driver of the Jeep (a 36-year-old man from Underwood) sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. The names of those involved will be released at a later date.
