BURLEIGH COUNTY – The Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department is alerting residents to a surge in scam attempts targeting the community. These scams involve individuals impersonating deputies and demanding money.
Recent incidents have involved scammers claiming that the targeted citizens have outstanding warrants. The scammers then demand payment to settle these warrants, instructing victims to use various electronic means such as gift cards, Apple Pay, or other cash apps. In some cases, they even ask individuals to purchase gift cards while remaining on the phone.
The Sheriff’s Department emphasizes that it will never call community members to demand payment via gift cards or any electronic method for any reason. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and never use gift cards as a form of payment.
Anyone suspecting fraudulent activity or questioning the legitimacy of a call should contact the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department at 701-222-6651.
