Governor Doug Burgum has appointed Greg Hoffman as the new Chief Information Officer for the North Dakota Information Technology department, effective immediately. Hoffman, who has been serving as interim CIO since June 1, steps into the role following the resignation of former CIO Kuldip Mohanty.
Governor Burgum praised Hoffman’s extensive experience and leadership skills, noting his deep understanding of NDIT’s operations and commitment to customer service.

Hoffman joined NDIT in 2005 as its first budget/rate analyst and has held various leadership roles, including leading the Administrative Services Division since 2014 and being appointed deputy CIO in April 2022. He holds bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck.

In his statement, Hoffman expressed his commitment to advancing the agency’s progress. “Being appointed as the CIO for NDIT is both an honor and a significant responsibility,” Hoffman said. “I am committed to building on our recent progress by focusing on customer service, leveraging emerging technologies like AI, growing the data literacy of government overall and continuing an emphasis on our cybersecurity posture. Together with our talented team, we will continue to innovate and deliver technology solutions that best serve the citizens of North Dakota, ensuring their data is secure and their needs are met efficiently and effectively.”

NDIT provides vital technology services to over 250,000 North Dakotans daily, managing an extensive array of services including computer equipment, software, communications, cybersecurity, and data storage. The department operates with a $275 million budget, oversees projects worth over $500 million, and employs approximately 500 team members across six specialized teams. The CIO also serves as a member of the governor’s cabinet.
