(SOUIX FALLS, SD) Social media erupted with conspiracy theories and opinions following Saturday’s incident involving the attempted assassination of Trump. Amid calls for calm, some amplified the violence, including South Dakota teacher Cassandra Oleson.
Oleson, a behavior facilitator at Ben Reifel Middle School, posted on Facebook, “Shoot, if only he would’ve had his scope sighted in correctly.” Her comments alarmed local residents, including Lisa Barlow, a concerned Sioux Falls resident and behavioral health nurse, who highlighted the irony of Oleson’s role in teaching restraint and discernment to children.
The school district responded by stating that Oleson is no longer employed, as her comments do not align with the district’s values. The district has not yet announced plans for a replacement. The next school board meeting is scheduled for July 22.
