The Cass County Canvassing Board in North Dakota unanimously rejected the absentee ballot of Kathryn Burgum, wife of Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, in the June election due to a signature mismatch. Cheryl Biller, a Democrat on the board, stated that Kathryn’s handwriting did not match the signature on file. About 150 ballots were reviewed for signature issues, with six, including Kathryn’s, being rejected. Kathryn voted under her maiden name, Kathryn Helgaas, in the Republican primary. Biller mentioned she was glad not to recognize the first lady’s name at the time to avoid bias. In total, around 60 ballots were rejected in Cass County for various reasons, including missing or mismatched signatures.
