Politicians in North Dakota are reacting to President Joe Biden dropping out of the election, and endorsing Kamala Harris. Merrill Piepkorn, the Democratic nominee in this year’s gubernatorial race, says he doesn’t think it will hurt the party in North Dakota. Piepkorn says Biden dropping out may actually energize the party. Governor Doug Burgum issued a statement claiming former President Trump’s “strength” caused Biden to withdraw. Biden’s state delegates and the state democratic party have signaled that they will back Vice President Harris at the national convention in August. Trump won North Dakota in 2020, defeating Biden 65-32%.
