Packers Quarterback Love Will Not Practice Without New Contract

The Green Bay Packers are underway in their 2024 training camp, but may be beginning without their leader and man behind center, quarterback Jordan Love.

Love throughout the offseason has been in talks with the Packers about getting a new contract extension linking him to the Packers for the foreseeable future. The contracts talks have been positive, and a risk of losing Love is not on the radar, but a matter of numbers, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said he is “Optimistic” that the team will get the deal done soon. But until the deal is done Love and his team announced he will not be participating in training camp activities.

Love had a stellar turnaround in 2023, from being one of the worst producing quarterbacks at the start of the season, to one of the best by the end of the season, leading the Packers to a playoff appearance, getting a playoff win, and almost getting the Pack to the NFC Championship game.

Talks have stalled at times due to the amount of money other quarterbacks in the league have gotten in extensions including the Jags’ Trevor Lawrence, and the Falcons’ Kirk Cousins. Love, though, has only had one year worth of meaningful time playing after sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for the first 3 years of his career. However, what the Packers and their fans have in mind, is if Love can replicate or add to the numbers shown in that first year of starting, then a long term contract is a no brainer for the Packers organization.
