South Dakota Granted $27 Million To Invest in Cattle/ Meat Processing Industry

South Dakota, a high producer in the Cattle Industry in the United States, was awarded grant money in thanks to the Biden Administrations American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, giving the state 27 million dollars for investing in local meat processing.

The funds were allocated to the state for South Dakota to give ranchers more options in selling and giving consumers fresher meat in the process. The grant will allow smaller local processors the ability to purchase in a big playing field that challenges the smaller groups with industry consolidation.

Local processing will also help in the environmental, logistical, and economic side of things, with shorter transport distances, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, creating more jobs, and increasing income for local farmers.
