The first North Dakotan to fly in space was honored at the State Capitol.   Astronaut Jim Buchli (BUCK-lee) was awarded the 49th Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award by Governor Doug Burgum.   Buchli is from New Rockford and flew four Space Shuttle missions between 1985-91, including the legendary Challenger Shuttle.  Governor Burgum praised Buchli as a pioneer, saying he has, “literally gone further and flown higher than any North Dakotan in history.”  Buchli presented Burgum with a flag that was flown to space on his first mission.  Buchli will now have his portrait hanging alongside the 48 prior Rough Rider honorees, which includes Burgum, at the state Capitol.
