Drivers in North Dakota could receive drug and impairment screening using new oral detection devices. The mobile devices can detect drugs besides alcohol in a person’s system, including marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine. North Dakota was part of a pilot program in 2022 and 2023. The results reportedly shows 83% of drivers had at least one drug present in their system. While officers can now employ these new devices, they still need probable cause to require drivers take the tests.
