The North Dakota Department of Transportation is asking for public comment on the proposed expansion of Highway 85 through The Badlands. The plan would expand a six mile section of the road from two to four lanes. That section runs through rough terrain and a bighorn sheep habitat. The work is part of the larger expansion of Highway 85 up to Watford City, where a new Interstate is being proposed. The construction was approved by environmental groups and will include wildlife crossings and a moratorium on construction during bighorn migration seasons.
