NFL Roundup! Vikings QB Out of Practice, Chiefs WR to Miss Time

By Ryan King Aug 13, 2024 | 7:54 AM

A week of preseason football is in the books, here are some headlines, and developments going on in the NFL as we enter week 2 of the Preseason.

-Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy was held out of practice on Monday night, after it was reported that he is dealing with right knee soreness. Medical team personnel will continue to evaluate McCarthy, and it is currently unclear if he will make the trip with the team this week to Cleveland for a pair of joint practices, and a preseason game against the Browns this Saturday. This comes after McCarthy had a stellar start to his preseason throwing for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns, with an interception being his only blemish on the stat line.

-New York Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick has requested a trade after a new contract was not done this offseason. Reddick had yet to report to Jets Training Camp this offseason, and will not report until a new contract is finalized. The New York Jets responded to this request by saying it was under their understanding that Reddick would play this coming season on the current contract he was traded with from Philadelphia, and that a new contract would be done after the 2024 season. Both sides are at a stand still, and it doesn’t look like the Jets will budge.

-And Marquise “Hollywood”  Brown, newly acquired by the Kansas City Chiefs, is going to miss some time at the start of the season after he injured his shoulder in the Chiefs first preseason action against the Jaguars. Brown dislocated his shoulder, but medical personnel have determined his recovery will not require surgery in order for the joint to be put back correctly. Brown is expected to miss the rest of the preseason and will most likely miss the first few weeks of the season.
