King’s Picks! Top 5 High School Football Games in the State of North Dakota this Week!

By Ryan King Aug 30, 2024 | 11:59 AM

The first official week of high school football in North Dakota is upon us! Last week we got a glimpse of some teams, while this week we will see some teams for the first time this season. Last week was highlighted by Kindred asserting their Dominance in Class A defeating #2 Velva-Garrison-Drake-Anamoose, while the Mandan Braves got a big win over the #2 team in AAA Shanley. There was a couple of shakeups in the rankings, and I will now reveal the top 5 games in the state I’m paying attention to.

1- #2 West Fargo-Sheyenne @ #1 Minot

– this could potentially be a state championship matchup and we are getting it early. West Fargo-Sheyenne cruised to a victory last week over Williston, and Minot will be taking the field for the first time this season. Who will come out on top in AAA? We will find out tonight!

2- #3 Central Cass @ #2 Langdon-Edmore-Munich

-another top 5 matchup in the state, both teams are trying to keep pace with Kindred in Class A, and got a break last week with #1 Kindred beating #2 Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison. This game should determine who will be the #2 in next weeks polls.

3- #3 Jamestown @ #4 Grand Forks Central

-Jamestown will return to the field this week against the team that eliminated them from the playoffs and a potential 3-peat in the Dakota Bowl last season. Red River jumped both teams this last week after defeating #5 Dickinson. Both teams will look for a big win tonight in order to keep in contention in Class AA.

4- #5 New Rockford Sheyenne-Maddock @ Cavalier

-last week Cavalier was in a 3 way tie for 5th place in 9-man, but after an explosion of 69 points in their opener New Rockford-Sheyenne-Maddock has shot up the polls, and knocked Cavalier and the two other teams out of 5th place leaving New Rockford in sole possession of #5 in the state. Will Cavalier be able to get their name back in the fold? Did New Rockford score too many points last week?

5- Bishop Ryan @ #5 Dickinson Trinity

-Bishop Ryan was just outside of the Top 5 in Class A this week, while Dickinson Trinity was tied for 5th with Bishop Ryan, after the first week, Dickinson Trinity separated themselves from the tie, and hold 5th to themselves. Bishop Ryan will try to knock them out and flip flop into the rankings this week when the two meet in Dickinson tonight.

Remember, Polls will be posted on our website when they are made available. And the Prep Sports Roundup on KSJB will return next week bringing you all the live action from some of your favorite games in the state!
