Kings Picks! Top High School Football Games in the State of North Dakota!

By Ryan King Sep 6, 2024 | 12:08 PM

Another week, another Friday Night of High School football in the state of North Dakota, the season is in full swing with all teams making their way on the field at least once, and now the fun can begin. These are my Top 5 Games entering this Friday (09/06).

1. #2 North Prairie @ #5 New Rockford-Sheyenne Maddock (9-man)

-Both teams have come out swinging to start the season both offenses scoring more than 100 points to begin. North Prairie the defending state champions were uncrowned of their preseason top spot, by Lamoure Litchville-Marion who has looked just as good. What team will drop or rise in the rankings with a win tonight? North Prairie and NRS-Maddock had an instant classic last season, and we could be in store for another tonight in New Rockford.

2. #3 Mandan @ #1 West Fargo-Sheyenne (AAA)

-Mandan as I predicted in the preseason has got into the top 5 and looks to keep building, but in their way stands West Fargo-Sheyenne who traveled up to Minot to dethrone the current #1 team in state last week and take the #1 spot. This game should feature both teams showing high powered offenses, and stout defenses. This could either be a very low scoring game, or an absolute shootout for some of the top spots in the state.

3. #4 West Fargo Horace @ #2 Jamestown (AA)

-Jamestown came out swinging to start their season defeating Grand Forks Central 34-9, but in their home opener they will face another top 5 team in the state, West Fargo-Horace who traveled to Dickinson and handled the Midgets last week. With a lesser trip, I expect this to be a good game, and I’ll be paying attention to the amount of turnovers each team has, Jamestown did a great job of taking opportunities when Central gave them the ball, can West Fargo Horace secure the ball and get an upset?

4. #5 Grand Forks Central @ St. Mary’s (AA)

-Grand Forks did not get off to a good start to their season losing to Jamestown at home, but neither did St Mary’s who took a loss at Red River 41-7. With both teams entering the matchup at 0-1, Grand Forks Central will look to straighten up some things to stay in the top 5 this coming week, while St. Mary’s has a chance to vault over Central with a win tonight in Bismarck.

5. Northern Cass @ #2 Central Cass (A)

-Both teams enter the game at 2-0, with Central Cass climbing their way up to the #2 spot. Northern Cass could become part of the conversation in the top 5 with a win tonight, while the pressure is on Central Cass needing this win to stay in contention with Kindred, while having Velva Garrison Drake-Anamoose and Langdon/Edmore/Munich itching to take their place.
