Kings Picks! Top 5 Games in North Dakota High School Football!

By Ryan King Sep 13, 2024 | 9:43 AM

It is Week 3 of High School Football in the state of North Dakota! And we will have another couple of great matchups to look forward to. Looking back to last week quickly, #1 West Fargo-Sheyenne would hold off #3 Mandan in a close one at home to keep their top spot in Triple A. And #5 New Rockford Sheyenne-Maddock would assert their dominance against #2 North Prairie at home scoring 60 points and it reflected in the polls jumping NRS-M to #3 in the state.

Here’s my Top 5 games in the state tonight! (9/13)

  1. #1 West Fargo-Sheyenne @ #2 Bismarck (AAA)

– West Fargo-Sheyenne managed to hold off #3 Mandan last week at home in a close one, but can they travel to Bismarck who has climbed up to the #2 spot and keep up this impressive start to the season going? This will be the third straight week WF-S has taken on a top 3 opponent in the state. Bismarck’s defense has only allowed an average of 6.5 points per game, through 2 games played. I expect this game to be similar to last weeks game between WF-S and Mandan, a defensive battle, or an offensive shootout.

2. #5 Linton HMB @ New Salem Almont (9-Man)

– Linton HMB finally broke into the top 5 in 9-man this week after receiving votes the last two weeks, but this week they will be taking on a team with a similar story, New Salem Almont. New Salem Almont at home, will want to try to pull off the upset which would presumedly vault them into the top 5 in 9-man. Linton HMB will have a tough test to start off their Top 5 appearance this week.

3. #5 Devils Lake @ #2 Jamestown  (AA)

– Jamestown survived a close one last week against the previous #5 team West Fargo-Horace,  Devils Lake is making their first appearance in the top 5. With another possible Top 5 win tonight, Jamestown should be in consideration for #1 in AA, as Grand Forks Red River the current #1 has only played 1 ranked team so far this season in a Week 0 win over #5 Central, Central is currently not ranked in AA.

4. #5 Fargo Davies @ #3 Minot  (AAA)

-The last time Minot hosted a Fargo team they were uncrowned as the number 1 team in the state. But Davies is a very interesting opponent, all season they have been riding the #5 position in AAA, can they make the most of this opportunity with a possible upset and finally break off the number 5 spot or will Minot be business per usual, and say that Week 1 loss was just a fluke?

5. #4 South Border @ Napoleon Gackle Streeter  (9-Man)

-South Border probably felt disrespected as they were kept at #4 in the polls this week, and was jumped by New Rockford Sheyenne Maddock for the #3 spot. But tonight they could make a statement as both teams enter tonight at 3-0. Can South Border travel on the road and keep up their dominant start to the season just like they did last year?
