Law enforcement in Fargo began clearing out homeless camps across the city on Wednesday, with additional actions expected through the weekend. In a 3-2 vote, the City Commission passed a new ordinance on September 3rd making it illegal to camp on public or private property. Those being forced to leave the camps have told local news outlets they have nowhere to go. The city homeless shelters are all at or over capacity. City leaders so far have stood behind the new ordinance, and have directed questions about homeless shelter capacity to those locations. People who’ve had their items confiscated by police will have 60 days to claim them at the Fargo Police Department.
