American Lamb Board Looking for Producers

By Ryan King Sep 23, 2024 | 8:09 AM

The American Lamb Board (ALB) is inviting 150 sheep producers to join its Climate Smart Sheep program, offering up to $7,000 to implement sustainable management practices and measure emissions. Participants will work with technical assistance providers to develop plans and gather data using the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator from Michigan State University. Applicants must meet specific requirements, including certifying land conservation measures and sharing farm data.

The program also utilizes a USDA Climate-Smart Commodities Grant to study the effects of targeted sheep grazing at four universities in California, Texas, Montana, and North Carolina. These studies will assess impacts onĀ  soil health, and ecosystem health, with one site focusing on solar grazing. The ALB prioritizes sustainability, aiming to demonstrate its commitment to environmental stewardship to retail customers and consumers.
