By Patrick McColl Sep 23, 2024 | 2:20 PM

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold avoided a serious injury in the Vikings 34-7 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday.

An MRI on Monday revealed that Darnold’s knee had a bruise, but there was not any structural damage. Darnold is not expected to miss any time.

“Really good news. Positive news,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said. “Extensive evaluations this morning, really just revealing a knee bruise in there. A little sore. But hoping Sam can have a normal week of preparation as we go through it.”

Darnold, in place of injured first round pick J.J. McCarthy, threw for four touchdowns in Minnesota’s win over Houston. In total, Darnold has thrown for eight touchdowns and two interceptions this season, adding 657 yards passing yards.

The Vikings will play the Packers at 12:00 on Sunday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
