Former President Donald Trump recently threatened John Deere with a 200% tariff on imported machinery if the company continues to move manufacturing operations to Mexico. While speaking at a roundtable in Pennsylvania focused on agricultural issues and China’s influence on the food supply, Trump expressed his discontent over Deere’s decision to relocate production, which has already led to the loss of over 1,800 jobs in the U.S. Deere has defended its commitment to American manufacturing, citing significant investments in domestic facilities, Trump warned that any machinery imported from Mexico would face severe tariffs, claiming this would hurt American farmers and manufacturing.

In his remarks, Trump emphasized that companies would face similar penalties for offshoring production. He argued that Deere’s move would not only harm U.S. workers but also undermine the company’s reputation, insisting that if Deere wants to avoid tariffs, they must keep their manufacturing in the United States.
