Twins Part Ways with Hitting Coach, Assistant

By Ryan King Oct 2, 2024 | 7:45 AM

After a late season collapse that left the Minnesota Twins out of the postseason, the organization has decided to shake things up with its coaching staff. Manager Rocco Baldelli was assured by Minnesota’s front office that his job was not in jeopardy, but the Twins would part ways with hitting coach Dave Popkins, and assistant hitting coach Derek Shoman. Popkins had been with the team the past 3 seasons, but with the finish to the season with multiple 12+ strikeout games and no runs being scored, change was needed immediately. The Twins will begin their search for a new hitting coach right away.

The Twins as a team averaged .246 at the plate, and totaled 1306 strikeouts in 2024.
