Bismarck Exploring Anti-Homeless Measures

RON JORDAN, KSJB LOCAL NEWS-

Bismarck is looking at ways to deal with its increasing number of homeless people camping on city streets. The City Commission is now considering a “prohibitive camping ordinance” that would ban encampments with fires, tents and furniture that can’t be easily transported by an individual. It would also prohibit sleeping in public sidewalks, streets, alleys or doorways. The Commission will hold a hearing on the proposal this month. If it passes, Bismarck police could remove property after giving people 24 hours’ notice.
