With the playoffs looming, the state of North Dakota High School Football is going to get a little more tense as the weeks progress. Some teams have established their dominance in their respective classes, some teams are trying to stay afloat to play extra football in the postseason. Here is my Top 5 games in the state of North Dakota tonight, October 4th.
1. #3 Bishop Ryan @ #2 Velva Garrison Drake Anamoose (A)
- Only one team has managed to stick with Kindred in Class A so far this season and that’s Velva. After an opening week loss to Kindred, Velva disappeared into the void of the rankings, but steadily climbed back into the #2 position. Tonight that #2 spot is up for grabs with undefeated #3 Bishop Ryan coming into town. Can either of these teams stick to that spot and face a date with Kindred later on in the postseason?
2. Century @ #3 Bismarck (AAA)
- The cross town rivalry, Century was bounced from the rankings last week after a bad loss to Legacy as the home team, and Bismarck was upset at Minot knocking them out their newly given #1 spot. Both teams are coming off losses, and need a win tonight to keep pace with the rest of AAA. Rankings aside, more importantly who will go home tonight with bragging rights?
3. #1 Lamoure LM @ Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (9 man)
- Lamoure had a good test last week at home against a Hankinson team that was undefeated winning the game 60-16. This week the number one team in 9-man will hit the road against another formidable opponent a Wyndmere-Lidgerwood team with just 1 loss. Can Lamoure continue their streak of staying at number one on the road tonight against a team with some pushback again? It wasn’t a problem last week at home, on the road can always be a different story.
4. Jamestown @ #3 Dickinson
- Jamestown is in unfamiliar territory, losing 3 in a row entering this week, and there’s a chance it could go to 4. The Blue Jays will travel to #3 Dickinson who has climbed into the #3 spot in AA after a loss by Devils Lake last week. Dickinson could use a home win like this to keep pace with Red River, and West Fargo- Horace, but the Blue Jays need a win to keep their season alive.
5. #5 Legacy @ Mandan
- Legacy turned heads last week defeating Century at home to launch into the Top 5, their opponent tonight is a team that has been in and out of the standings throughout the season Mandan, who could use a win tonight to get back into the TOP 5 after receiving votes this week.
