The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is suing several social media companies for allegedly causing a “youth mental health crisis” on the reservation. The complaint says the platforms “deliberately tweaked the design and operation of their apps to exploit the psychology” of children, causing anxiety, depression, disordered eating and other issues. The suit claims the “defendants’ negligence helped to and did produce” losses that “the Tribe and its members suffered and will continue to suffer.” The Tribe is seeking unspecified damages.
