The Minnesota Timberwolves had some revenge on their mind taking on the team that eliminated them and put their best seasons run to an end in the Western Conference Finals last year. The Dallas Mavericks came to town, and left with a win, in the rematch.
Dallas advanced to the finals last year after a gentleman’s sweep of the Timberwolves 4-1, with the dynamic duo of Luca Doncic and Kyrie Irving playing a key role. The Duo of Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards did not show up, ending the best season in Wolves Franchise history.
The duo of Doncic and Irving returned to the court, but the duo in Minnesota would have a new look. With Karl Anthony Towns off to New York, Julius Randle has stepped in to be the new running mate of superstar Anthony Edwards, and the two showed out in this rematch but it was not enough.
The Wolves would lose the game 120-114, despite a game high 37 point effort from Anthony Edwards, and 20 points coming from Randle. The duo of Doncic and Irving would continue to haunt the Timberwolves franchise with Doncic scoring 24, and Irving scoring 35.
Naz Reid was some help off the bench scoring 14, and Jayden McDaniel’s scoring 13, but it would be the Mavs’ starters who were the deciding factor with all but the recently acquired Klay Thompson scoring more than 14 in the game.
The Wolves had opportunities to bring the score closer at the end to perhaps send it to overtime, but the Wolves would be held scoreless in the last 26 seconds of the game to take the loss.
Minnesota fell to 2-2 in the early NBA season, and will remain at home this Friday when they take on a team they eliminated from the playoffs last year, the Denver Nuggets and another dynamic duo of Nicola Jokic, and Jamaal Murray.
