According to Tom Blackmore of Jamestown’s Inspection Department, approval is needed from the city of Jamestown to place yard signs or political signs.

Blackmore spoke with the Jamestown Sun and said no signs, be they commercial or political, are allowed within right of ways. Blackmore says that when the ordinance refers to a street, it includes the roadway, a curb, gutter, a boulevard, and sidewalk.

Many of the rules are posted in Article five of Section 21-05-09 under the City of Jamestown Municipal Code. Any violation could result in being convicted of a Class B misdemeanor which is punishable up to 30 days in prison and a $1,500 fine.
