The application deadline for North Dakota organic producers seeking reimbursement for certification costs has been extended to November 15, 2024, under the Organic Certification Cost Share Program. Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, the program provides financial assistance of up to $750 for certification costs incurred between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024.

The North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner highlighted the significance of organic certification, which allows producers to use the federal organic seal and potentially achieve higher market prices. Producers certified by specific organizations should apply for reimbursement through their certifier, while others can contact the NDDA for assistance. The USDA has allocated $97,500 to this program for 2024, aiming to support existing organic producers and encourage more farmers to adopt organic practices, reinforcing the value of sustainable production in the state.
