RON JORDAN, KSJB LOCAL NEWS –
Elwood Edwards is dead. You may not know his name but if you’re old enough you’ve probably heard his voice thousands of times.
Edwards was asked by a startup software company to record three phrases which he did on a cassette machine in his living room in 1989. The company paid him $250 dollars for his trouble. The phrases were “file downloaded,” “goodbye” and the one you’re most likely to remember: AOL’s famous, “You’ve got mail!”
He died of an undisclosed illness. Elwood Edwards was 75.
