Rookie Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy had his season cut short in 2024 not making it out of the preseason, tearing his meniscus and ending his rookie season prematurely.

McCarthy did the surgery right before the start of the NFL season, and was seen on the Minnesota Vikings sideline throughout the later parts of the season cheering on teammates, leaving Vikings fans wondering what the future holds for their team, after McCarthy was picked in the Top 10 of this years NFL Draft.

While during his rehab, Minnesota Training staff noticed some swelling on the knee that was repaired and sent McCarthy in to get it looked at just to assure there was nothing that would have been a cause for concern as the Vikings would begin their preparations for the 2025 season, where McCarthy is scheduled to return at 100%.

According to head coach Kevin O’Connell everything looked fine, and McCarthy will continue to be on the right track for his return next year. “He’s on the original timeline and in good shape. … (We) feel really good about where he’s at.”

The Vikings look to continue on their good start of the season traveling to Tennessee to take on the Titans this Sunday with a record of 7-2, and are second place in the NFC North with McCarthy’s “teacher” Sam Darnold holding the reigns as the Vikings signal caller.
