The New York Giants announced they would be cutting ties with former first round draft pick, quarterback Daniel Jones.
Jones was the signal caller for the Giants for most of 6 years, and showed some promise when he led the Giants to a Playoff birth and first round win in 2022. Jones signed a nice extension entering the 2023 season, putting the trust of the franchise on his shoulders. But since then, Jones has been inconsistent, unproductive, and prone to turnovers, only leading to a record of 24-45-1 as the starting quarterback of the Giants.
Jones hadn’t shown anything in 2024 either, including not being able to throw a touchdown at his home stadium for almost two years, which led to his benching for the fan favorite on the bench, Tommy Devito.
It was a mutual parting of ways, Jones requested his release, and the Giants approved, making the move best for both the team, and the quarterback.
Jones will be looking for a new team to play for in the 2025 season, while the Giants could be on the clock for the first pick of the NFL Draft, and will try again when it comes to picking the next leader of the once proud, consistent and productive franchise.
