A pavilion in Cando and a barn next to McVille will be recognized in the National Register of Historic Places.
A release from the register said the Towner County Fairground Pavilion in Cando was constructed in 1919 near the horse racing track where the county fair was established shortly after. The building was a host for food competitions and exhibits during the fairs and also the location for dances and social events.
The Nels Ophaug Farm Barn near McVille was built in 1905. The barn was made for dairy, calving and horses but was rebuilt in 1943 with an arched roof after a windstorm destroyed the original roof.
According to the register, these properties are now held with “prestige” and will therefore have protections from adverse effects in federal projects and the buildings will have eligibility for financial incentives for preservation.
