UND Head Football Coach Schweigert to Step Down

After 11 years the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks will be looking for a new head coach after longtime leader of the team Bubba Schweigert announced he would be stepping down from the position.

Schweigert will still be with the Fighting Hawks’ operations but will be moving to a senior administrative role within the Athletic Department as Senior Associate Athletic Director for engagement and mentorship.

Schweigert was a native to Zeeland, North Dakota, and led the Hawks to 66 wins during his tenure, including 5 post-season appearances, and coaching 16 All Americans with the university.

With the move, the team has announced that in the meantime, interim head coaching roles will now go to Isaac Fruechte the teams current offensive coordinator will take the reigns until the coaching search has concluded.

Some early candidates named for the position were the current interim head coach Isaac Fruechte, Danny Freund current co-offensive coordinator for SDSU, and Travis Johansen the current USD defensive coordinator.
