Vikings Rookie Kicker Reichard to Return Soon?

A sigh of relief MAY be incoming for Vikings fans this week. The sigh comes from the position group that has brought nothing but heartache and pain for Vikings fans for the passed 63 years since the franchises formation, the Kicker.

Rookie kicker, Will Reichard, injured his quad the week the Vikings took on the Indianapolis Colts on November 3rd, and in the game against the Colts, the injury glared its ugly head, Reichard would go 0-2 in field goal attempts, making some Vikings fans wonder if the same curse had struck them again as Reichard was perfect on field goals up to that weeks game.

Reichard was placed on injured reserve and hasn’t seen the field since. In the meantime, his replacement filled the void just fine. The Vikings would sign kicker John Parker Romo, for their games against Jacksonville, Tennessee, Chicago and Arizona. Romo went 11-12 on Field Goal attempts, and 7-8 when it came to extra point attempts, nothing to complain about for a backup who was signed just days prior to kicking for the team.

On the plus side, the Vikings went 4-0 in Reichard’s absence, and won a game thanks to leg of Romo.

Reichard could be expected to return to the field this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons and hopes to get back on track similar to the start of his season. Aside from the two missed field goals due to his injury against Indy, Reichard went 14 of 14 on field goal attempts for the Vikings so far in the 2024 season, and 20 of 20 on Extra point attempts. Reichard was proving to be a valuable weapon for the Vikings offense before the injury sidelined him, now he hopes to come in the clutch for a team that has been short of a clutch kicker for the passed 63 years.

The Vikings also got some other great news when it comes to the special teams unit, long snapper Andrew DePaolo is also slated for a return soon as well.

The Vikings will play host to the Atlanta Falcons and the returning Kirk Cousins this Sunday at US Bank Stadium.
