PAYTON GALL — The Jamestown Public School District and the school board are considering closing one or more elementary schools such as Washington, Lincoln and Louis L’Amour elementary due to declining enrollment and facility needs.
The decision could be made as early as the next month. The district has formed a committee to evaluate four options: keep the status quo; continue operating five elementary schools, or close one school with one classroom per grade level, or close two schools and build one, or even close three schools and build one with three classrooms per grade level.
Open communication with staff and the community will be held, as they work on enrollment and boundary studies to inform the decision making process.
