Multiple cases of the bird flu have now been confirmed in North Dakota.
Three counties in the state have confirmed cases according to the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The highly pathogenic influenza is transmitted primarily amongst birds.
The virus was found in a chicken flock in McHenry County, a turkey flock in Ransom County, and a mixed flock in Bottineau County. The results were confirmed by the National Veterinary Servies. The cases trigger an automatic suspension of comingling poultry in those counties until there are 30 days with no cases.
Bird flu exists in many wild birds and can be transmitted upon contact or through infected food and water.
Officials say there is no risk to public health at this time.
