PAYTON GALL — Governor Doug Burgum’s final budget address presents a comprehensive $19.5 billion state budget proposal for 2025-2027, with a primary focus on addressing critical economic challenges and opportunities in North Dakota, including: $53.8 million allocated to workforce development initiatives, $19 million dedicated to childcare support, and strategic focus on solving workforce shortages, with an emphasis on automated agriculture, artificial intelligence, and energy innovation.
$95 million is going to housing infrastructure. There is proposed support for behavioral health services, plans for correctional facility construction, and investment in critical infrastructure projects like the Red River Valley Water Supply project. The proposal, set to take effect on July 1, 2025, was unveiled at the state Capitol in Bismarck, with a general fund of $6.5 billion, a 7% increase in overall spending, hoping to leverage North Dakota’s positive migration trend and high quality of life.
It sets the stage for economic growth, workforce expansion, and strategic development, with Governor-elect Kelly Armstrong expected to continue the collaborative approach to state governance.
