Lake Sakakawea is set to be Minot’s main water source starting next year. The lake is North Dakota’s largest, and the goal of the water project is to bring a drinkable water source to the entire area around Minot.
According to Mark Paddock, who is the city of Minot’s Water Superintendent, the wells around Minot have continued to produce less water. Paddock says that aquifer levels have caused issues with water pumping levels, making the wells less efficient. Paddock told KX News that when all three phases of the NAWS project are complete, the City of Minot could bring in double the amount of water daily.
