The Jamestown Police Department have revealed the officer involved in last week’s shooting outside of Fred’s Den on December 3.

JPD says it was Sgt. Cory Beckman who was the first officer to respond to the scene.  Beckman is a member of the James/Valley Special Operations Team and has spent five years with the department.

Jamestown Police Department says 27-year-old Devin Quinn Fontenot was firing multiple shots at the bar in the early morning hours before Beckman arrived.  Fontenot allegedly had a previous altercation at Fred’s Den after which he was kicked out.   According to police, Beckman confronted Fontenot and ordered him to put his weapon down, and Fontenot refused and kept firing.  Beckman then allegedly shot Fontenot, who died after being transported to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

JPD Chief Scott Edinger previously said it was the quick actions of Beckman, “. . . saved lives.”

Beckman is currently on paid administrative leave while the North Dakota State Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues their investigation.
