A North Dakota panel will review whether it should approve or deny permits for underground storage of millions of metric tons of carbon dioxide that a proposed pipeline would carry form ethanol plants throughout the Midwest.
If approved, it would be another win for Summit Carbon Solutions’ controversial pipeline project. The company gained approval for its North Dakota route last month, and Iowa regulators have given conditional approval. Minnesota utility regulators are scheduled to review a 28-mile leg of the project on Thursday, as well.
The $8 billion pipeline is set to be 2500 miles long and would transport planet-warming CO2 emissions from 57 ethanol plants in the Midwest, with storage in North Dakota.
The company submitted another application for a permit in South Dakota after regulators rejected Summit Carbon Solutions’ permit application last year.
