PAYTON GALL, KSJB LOCAL NEWS-
A recent inspection into a runaway car in Fargo has resulted in no apparent abnormalities.
Honda has stated that no system malfunction caused a West Fargo teen’s Honda Pilot to accelerate to 113 mph and become uncontrollable in September. Sam Dutcher, 18, was driving near Harwood, N.D., on Sept. 17 when his vehicle suddenly accelerated, prompting him to call 911. He traveled approximately 30 miles into Minnesota before a state trooper used his squad car to stop the runaway vehicle by having Dutcher intentionally crash into it.
In a statement released Tuesday, Jan. 7, Honda said a November inspection “identified no vehicle defects” and found “no evidence of any system malfunction.” Dutcher’s family disputes Honda’s findings.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet confirmed whether they have inspected the vehicle.
