The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is giving $6 billion in nationwide investments into clean energy. North Dakota was awarded more than $1.5 billion.

The funding was awarded through the USDA’s Empowering Rural American program, which is supposed to lower electricity costs for business and families, reduce climate pollution and support thousands of jobs. In North Dakota, Great River Energy will receive $794 million and Basin Electric Power Cooperative will get $775 million.

As of now, the USDA has awarded about 90% of its New ERA funding, giving out about $9 billion of the program’s $9.7 billion budget. The money has been spread across 35 states.
