The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. (JSDC) approved $35,000 for a new Commercial Driver License program at the James Valley Career and Technology Center, pending city/county approval. As reported by the Jamestown Sun, Heidi Eckart, Assistant Director of the James Valley Career and Tech Center says their staff found a gap in the workforce for people with a CDL after their comprehensive local needs assessment. In the last two years, there were 321 openings in the state that required a CDL. The funds will match a larger state grant to address the local driver shortage. The funding will be used to obtain a commercial drivers license simulator, a semitractor, a trailer to transport the equipment to other communities, and a golf cart with a small trailer for entry-level training.
