North Dakota’s House of Representatives approved a measure that will replace drones made in China from the state fleet. The state currently has 353 drones, and 307 are from China.

Bismarck representative Mike Nathe says he was told by some federal officials that Chinese drones were equipped with data-gathering and transmitting devices. Nathe was told that the drones have flown over communities, oil fields, military sites and more. Nathe says the cost to replace the Chinese drones will be about $15 million. With the measure’s approval, $11 million will be provided for access to the Federal Aviation Administration’s radar data.

The vote was 89 to 4 in favor of the measure, and it will now be considered in the state’s Senate.
