A fire severely damaged the student cafeteria at the University of Jamestown on Sunday.

The blaze broke out Sunday around 1:30 a.m. in the kitchen. Firefighters from the Jamestown city and rural fire departments worked nearly 10 hours to put it out.  Many students caught the fire on video, with posts on social media showing towering flames coming out of the building circulating worldwide.   The fire was contained to the cafeteria area and did not spread to the rest of the building.

Students could be without access to the campus cafeteria for weeks, and perhaps the rest of the school year.   Jamestown Public Schools are allowing university staff to use it’s cooking facilities, and Valley City State and Moorhead State Universities are assisting with resources.

For now, students can eat at the Harold Newman Arena.
